The conditions for terminating the contract with the concessionaire of the Brskovo mine have been met

“The conditions for terminating the contract with the concessionaire of the Brskovo mine near Mojkovac have been met, as urban-planning and technical conditions have not been obtained, nor are there assumptions for their issuance,” states a letter from the protector of property and legal interests of Montenegro, Bojana Ćirović, addressed to the Ministry of Energy and Mining.

In the document, Ćirović emphasizes that the relevant ministries should now create a detailed chronology of the obligations taken over and fulfilled by the concessionaire and the state. Minister of Energy and Mining Saša Mujović will discuss this with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić by the end of the week to agree on the government’s next steps.

The possible construction of the mine in Mojkovac and its impact on the environment were commented on by the Minister of Ecology, Vladimir Martinović.

“That is not in the portfolio I lead, but if the mine is built, I promise the citizens of Mojkovac and Montenegro that it will have to be strictly built according to ecological norms and standards, and under no circumstances will it be allowed to jeopardize the health and lives of people living in that area,” stated Martinović.

The letter from the protector also notes that “the Protector points out the Appeal of the Planning Team for the preparation of the Detailed Spatial Plan for the concession area for the exploitation of mineral resources – Brskovo, Municipality of Mojkovac, dated June 7th, 2023, as well as the fact that there is no positive Opinion of the Council for the review of the Detailed Spatial Plan for the concession area for the exploitation of mineral resources – Brskovo, Municipality of Mojkovac, and judging by the content of the Appeal of the Planning Team, it is certain that there cannot be a positive opinion in that direction.”
