Technology Minerals advances battery recycling business

Technology Minerals PLC said its 48.25% owner battery recycling business is making good progress in the commissioning phase.

Recyclus Group, located in Wolverhampton, is aiming to become the UK’s first industrial-scale lithium-ion facility.

The London-listed company said the commissioning is on schedule, with the plant steadily increasing its hours of operations, while also passing inspections conducted by relevant agencies.

Technology Minerals added that the plant has a permit to process up to 22,000 tonnes of lithium-ion batters a year, and expects around 8,300 tonnes to be processed in the first year.

Lithium-ion batteries are processed to produce black mass, which contains battery metals that be reprocessed back into the supply chain.

“The commissioning phase at the Li-ion battery recycling site is performing well and on schedule. We are steadily increasing the hours of operation as we gear up to full continuous operations and we look forward to updating the market as we continue our progress,” said Technology Materials chairman Robin Brundle in a statement.
