Northvolt has produced its first battery system for stationary energy storage systems at its Northvolt Dwa plant in Poland. The company has also announced a $1.2 billion financing. The investment will be used to realize the company’s expansion plans for Europe and North America.
Projects in Sweden, Germany and Portugal
Northvolt’s battery cells are developed at “Northvolt Labs” in Västerås, Sweden as well as “Northvolt Cuberg” in San Leandro, California, USA. The cells are then produced at the “Northvolt Ett” gigafactory in Skellefteå, Sweden. This factory will be complemented by the adjacent “Revolt Ett” giga-scale recycling plant, which is scheduled to begin operations later in 2023. Additional projects are currently under development in countries such as Sweden, Germany and Portugal.
Customers from energy storage and industrial sectors
Northvolt has already been producing battery systems at an established facility in Gdańsk since 2019. With support from the European Innovation Fund, a production facility covering 25,000 square meters was created. Battery cells are assembled into individual battery systems for customers in the energy storage and industrial sectors. Customer deliveries are expected later this year following completion of final production line validation.
