Chinese company plans to produce gold in Tajikistan

China’s China Nonferrous Gold Limited intends to produce up to 207 kg of gold at the Pakrut gold mine in Tajikistan in 2018, TajikTA agency reported.

Gold production should reach 1-1.5 tons per year in the future, said the Chinese company’s Managing Director Lixian Yu at a parliament meeting.

He noted that they will start producing gold at the field in July 2018.

On the same day, the lower chamber of the Tajik parliament ratified an investment agreement signed by the Chinese company, Tajik government and Pakrut LLC in April 2017.

The development of the Pakrut gold mine was started by the Chinese side in 2012, and more than $180 million have been spent so far for this purpose. It is planned to lure additional $76 million.

In 2030, gold mining under this project may be transferred under the jurisdiction of Tajikistan by mutual consent.
