Saudi Arabia’s gold sector is entering a transformative phase with the launch of a large-scale exploration platform led by Ma’aden in partnership with Midana Exploration, supported by Gina Rinehart. The initiative spans more than 24,000 square kilometres across the Nabita–Ad Duwayhi belt, a well-known geological corridor with historic gold mineralization, now targeted with modern, industrial-scale exploration technology.
Cutting-Edge Exploration Technology
Unlike previous exploration campaigns, the Ma’aden–Midana platform integrates a full technology stack from day one. Workflows combine AI-driven geochemical pattern recognition, hyperspectral satellite mapping, and machine-learning analysis of structural data, replacing traditional grid-based drilling approaches. This allows probabilistic target generation, reducing barren drilling and accelerating discovery cycles.
Capital Efficiency and Accelerated Timelines
The program is designed to compress greenfield discovery timelines from the traditional 8–10 years to 5–6 years, while reducing exploration CAPEX intensity by 30–40% per square kilometre. Faster conversion of inferred resources into compliant reserves enhances project bankability, enabling earlier engagement with offtakers and financiers.
Sustainable and Integrated Development
Downstream considerations are embedded in the exploration strategy. Potential discoveries are planned for water-efficient processing, high-automation plants, and energy-efficient comminution, addressing Saudi Arabia’s water scarcity and supporting industrial decarbonization goals. This positions the platform not only as a discovery engine but also as a feeder for a fully integrated Saudi gold value chain, aligned with Vision 2030 objectives.
By combining advanced analytics, capital efficiency, and sustainability, the Ma’aden–Midana platform is redefining how gold discoveries are generated and developed in the Middle East, setting a new benchmark for exploration in resource-rich, water-constrained environments.
