Lappland Guldprospektering Gains Access to Historical Gubbträsk Gold and Base Metals Drilling

Lappland Guldprospektering has secured a new exploration permit covering most of the historical drilling at the Gubbträsk gold and base metals prospect in northern Sweden, giving the company access to a substantial geological dataset that has yet to be fully reassessed under modern reporting standards.

The Swedish Mining Inspectorate awarded the Gubbträsk No. 102 exploration permit, covering 3,806 hectares in Västerbotten County for an initial three-year period. The licence adjoins the company’s existing 3,144-hectare Gubbträsk No. 101 permit.

Historical Drilling Provides Extensive Exploration Database

The newly awarded licence contains 84 of the 86 historical drill holes recorded across Gubbträsk. Earlier exploration produced a best reported intersection of 6 metres grading 11.15 grams of gold per tonne. The reported interval represents down-hole length, however, and its true width has not been established.

Historical exploration also identified gold mineralisation alongside parallel zones containing zinc, lead and silver, indicating a broader polymetallic exploration system. Work carried out between 2004 and 2008 included approximately 8,800 metres of core drilling and more than 600 geochemical holes across an area measuring about 1.5 kilometres by 500 metres.

Historical Estimate Requires Modern Review

An estimate published in 2007 identified approximately 700,000 tonnes grading 1.6 grams of gold per tonne. The same historical work outlined a separate zone containing approximately 2.1 million tonnes grading 1.2% zinc, 1.1% lead and 11 grams of silver per tonne. These figures were prepared according to Swedish reporting requirements applicable at the time and cannot be treated as a current mineral resource under modern reporting standards. The historical database also contains approximately 4,000 metres of additional drilling completed after the estimate that was never incorporated into a published update.

Company Targets PERC-Compliant Resource

Lappland Guldprospektering plans to review the preserved drill core, geological logs and laboratory certificates to determine whether the accumulated information can support a new mineral resource estimate prepared under the PERC reporting standard. The availability of preserved core could significantly reduce the cost of the project’s initial technical assessment. The company estimates that reproducing the historical drilling and associated analytical work would cost close to SEK18 million, based on a contemporary drilling cost of slightly below SEK2,000 per metre. By comparison, exploration permit fees for the initial three-year period are below SEK80,000.

Historical Data Offers Low-Cost Exploration Route

Access to the existing geological information gives the junior explorer an opportunity to evaluate Gubbträsk without immediately replicating the entire historical exploration programme. The technical limitations of the inherited dataset remain important. Historical assays and estimates will require independent verification, while further drilling is likely to be needed to confirm mineralisation continuity, determine true widths and establish compliance with current reporting requirements. The project’s eventual resource potential will depend on the quality and continuity of the mineralised zones rather than historical grades alone.

Gubbträsk Located Along Sweden’s Gold Line

Gubbträsk is located approximately 27 kilometres north of Lappland Guldprospektering’s Stortjärnhobben project, along Sweden’s Gold Line. Its proximity to the company’s existing exploration portfolio could allow geological investigations to be coordinated across several targets rather than treating Gubbträsk as a standalone exploration project.

The next stage will centre on the review of historical core and geological data, followed by a decision on the amount of confirmatory drilling required. The existing database provides a substantial starting point, but Gubbträsk remains an exploration project until historical mineralisation can be independently confirmed and converted into a modern, compliant resource model.
