Guardian Metal Resources is moving forward with a strategic tungsten processing programme linked to defence applications, strengthening the company’s position within the growing market for critical minerals used in advanced technologies and national security industries.
The company’s shares closed Friday at approximately 184 pence, rising 0.82%, with a market capitalisation of around £358 million. The market movement followed news of a new processing partnership aimed at demonstrating the potential recovery and production of tungsten materials from the company’s Nevada assets.
Strategic Tungsten Partnership Targets Defence Applications
Guardian Metal has entered a collaborative processing initiative involving the Montana Mining Association, Montana Technological University and the US Army Research Laboratory. Under the programme, Guardian expects to provide approximately 250–400 tonnes of legacy tungsten-bearing material from its Tempiute project in Nevada for trial processing at a facility located in Philipsburg, Montana.
The objective of the programme is to test the recovery and conversion of tungsten into products that meet the requirements of defence-related applications. Tungsten is considered a strategically important metal due to its unique properties, including high density, strength and resistance to extreme temperatures. It is widely used in specialised industrial applications, including defence systems, aerospace components, cutting tools and advanced manufacturing.
Pilot Processing Work to Support Future Development
Initial shipments of tungsten-bearing material are expected in late summer 2026, following additional metallurgical testing and pilot-scale development work. The programme represents an important step in evaluating whether historical tungsten material from the Tempiute project can be transformed into a commercially viable supply source. The initiative remains at the demonstration stage and does not yet represent a binding commercial offtake agreement or a completed economic assessment.
Critical Minerals Strategy Supports Tungsten Development
The partnership aligns with broader US and allied efforts to strengthen domestic and strategic supply chains for critical minerals. Tungsten supply has become increasingly important for governments seeking to reduce dependence on concentrated international sources and secure reliable access to materials essential for defence, technology and industrial manufacturing.
Projects capable of supporting domestic production and processing are receiving increased attention as policymakers focus on supply chain resilience and strategic resource independence.
Commercial Success Depends on Scaling Results
For Guardian Metal, the next stage of valuation growth will depend on whether pilot results can demonstrate strong technical and economic potential.
Key factors will include tungsten recovery rates, final product quality, processing costs and the ability to scale the technology into a commercially financed production system. Successful demonstration of the processing route could strengthen the Tempiute project’s role within the North American critical minerals landscape and potentially position Guardian as a future supplier of strategically important tungsten products.
As demand increases for metals supporting defence technologies, advanced manufacturing and high-performance industrial applications, tungsten projects with domestic processing capabilities are expected to attract growing attention from investors and governments.
