First Quantum Minerals launches commercial nickel production at Zambia’s enterprise mine

First Quantum Minerals has announced the commencement of commercial nickel production at its Enterprise mine in Zambia. The company reported significant progress, with nickel output increasing from 4,031 tons in Q1 to 6,147 tons in Q3 of 2024. This growth has allowed First Quantum to officially begin commercial production of nickel.

The Enterprise mine facility, built and commissioned by First Quantum, achieved commercial production within just two years of the initial discovery. The company has set an ambitious annual production target of 17,000 to 20,000 tons of nickel.

Anthony Mukutuma, Director at First Quantum Minerals, highlighted the company’s future plans, stating, “In the long term, First Quantum will expand its exploration program in Zambia. We will initially focus on areas around our existing operations and subsequently explore new prospective sites across the country’s mining regions.”
