EVelution’s Mitsui Cobalt Offtake Deal Strengthens U.S. Critical Minerals Supply Chain Ambitions

EVelution Energy’s planned cobalt processing facility in Arizona has taken a major step toward becoming a financeable critical minerals project after securing an US$850 million offtake agreement with Mitsui & Co.

Under the five-year binding agreement, EVelution expects to supply Mitsui with a significant majority of the cobalt metal produced at its planned Yuma County, Arizona facility, with deliveries reaching up to 3,000 metric tonnes of contained cobalt annually. The agreement provides something many emerging critical minerals projects struggle to obtain: a credible industrial customer before construction is complete.

Offtake Agreement Provides Commercial Foundation

The importance of the Mitsui partnership extends beyond the contract value itself.

For critical minerals projects, long-term success depends on much more than having access to a resource. Companies must also demonstrate:
