Euronext Mining Stocks Split as Critical-Mineral Demand Meets Financial Pressure

Euronext’s mining sector is becoming increasingly selective as strong gold, nickel, lithium and aluminium markets collide with financing, permitting and operational challenges. Investors are no longer rewarding mineral ownership alone; companies must demonstrate a clear path from resources to production and cash flow.

Eramet Faces Financial and Operational Pressure

Eramet remains one of the most closely watched mining stocks on Euronext. First-quarter adjusted revenue rose 13% to €840 million, while the Centenario lithium operation in Argentina reached almost 80% of capacity.

The company also secured covenant waivers, reduced planned capital expenditure to €250-€290 million and received approval for a €500 million capital increase. Indonesia’s restrictions on nickel production are creating additional uncertainty for its Weda Bay operation.

AMG Strengthens Its Critical-Materials Position

AMG Critical Materials offers a stronger strategic investment story. First-quarter revenue increased 15% to $446.1 million, while operating profit more than doubled.

The company is expanding US chrome-metal processing and pursuing the acquisition of Zinnwald Lithium in Germany. The transaction could eventually connect Zinnwald’s resource with AMG’s lithium-hydroxide refinery, creating an integrated European supply chain.

Imerys Builds a European Lithium Option

Imerys is developing the EMILI lithium project in France, which is designed to produce 34,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide annually from around 2030. The project has received French public-sector backing, strengthening its strategic importance. However, permitting, infrastructure, construction and financing remain important milestones before the project can contribute significant earnings.

Kenmare Resources is facing weaker operating conditions at its Moma mineral-sands operation in Mozambique. First-half ilmenite production fell 39% to 273,100 tonnes, while rutile and zircon output also declined. An expanded $230 million revolving credit facility provides additional liquidity, but investors are waiting for evidence of a sustained production recovery.

Nordic Mining continues to face significant challenges at its Engebø rutile and garnet project. Processing problems have delayed the expected production ramp-up, while a dispute over the project’s discharge permit has increased regulatory and environmental uncertainty.

The shares fell to NOK4.65 on July 17, well below the NOK12 placement price earlier this year. Smaller gold producers are benefiting from elevated gold prices but remain exposed to financing risks. Akobo Minerals increased second-quarter doré production to approximately 37 kilograms, but had SEK414.1 million in long-term debt at the end of the first quarter. Newly listed Gold Road International also trades below its NOK10 offering price, with investors looking for stronger and more consistent production.

Copper Exploration Remains Speculative

Polar Resources, another recent Euronext Growth Oslo listing, offers exposure to copper and zinc exploration in Norway. The company has yet to establish a producing mine or bankable reserve, making it a significantly more speculative investment.

The broader Euronext mining market is increasingly rewarding companies that combine strategic mineral exposure, processing capacity, secure financing and reliable production. Large industrial groups such as ArcelorMittal and Norsk Hydro offer greater financial resilience, while critical-materials specialists such as AMG are benefiting from growing Western efforts to secure domestic supply chains. The key lesson for investors is becoming clear: mineral scarcity creates opportunity, but strong balance sheets, permits and reliable production are what ultimately turn geological poten tial into shareholder value.
