Cornish Tin & Lithium Expands Tregonning Discovery with New Lithium Extension and High-Grade Tin Mineralization in Cornwall

Cornwall is reinforcing its position as a strategic critical minerals center after Cornish Tin & Lithium (CTL) announced significant exploration success at its Tregonning Project in southwest England. The latest drilling campaign has revealed an expanded lithium-bearing system and a newly discovered high-grade tin mineralization zone, highlighting the project’s growing importance for the UK’s domestic supply of essential raw materials.

Phase 3 Drilling Delivers Major Exploration Success

The company’s Phase 3 drilling program, carried out between September 2025 and January 2026, targeted lithium-rich aplite-pegmatite formations within the newly identified Tregonning South extension area.

The results exceeded expectations, confirming that lithium mineralization extends well beyond previously known boundaries while also uncovering a substantial new tin system. These discoveries significantly strengthen the long-term development potential of the project and reinforce Cornwall’s role in Europe’s critical minerals sector.

New Lithium Formation Extends Over 3 Kilometers

One of the most important outcomes of the drilling campaign was the identification of the Newall Formation, a newly recognized lithium-bearing geological structure that extends far beyond the original discovery area at Tregonning North.

Previous drilling at Tregonning North had already returned encouraging lithium grades, including:

  • 0.3 meters grading 1.33% Li₂O
  • Peak values reaching 1.42% Li₂O

The latest exploration data indicate that the lithium-rich system now extends approximately 3.27 kilometers from Tregonning North to Tregonning South. Multiple lithium-bearing horizons were intercepted at varying depths throughout the project area, suggesting the mineralized system may be significantly larger than previously estimated and could support substantial future resource growth.

Lithium’s Strategic Importance Continues to Grow

The discovery comes at a time when global demand for lithium is accelerating rapidly due to the expansion of:

  • Electric vehicle manufacturing
  • Battery energy storage systems
  • Renewable energy infrastructure
  • Advanced technology applications

As governments across Europe seek to secure domestic supplies of critical minerals, projects such as Tregonning are becoming increasingly important for reducing reliance on imported raw materials.

High-Grade Tin Discovery Adds Significant Value

In addition to lithium, the drilling campaign also produced a major breakthrough in tin exploration.

The company identified a new tin mineralization system across Tregonning South, where exploration has already outlined ten mineralized lodes together with an associated sheeted vein network.

Several zones returned particularly strong tin grades, including:

  • 2.69% tin in the Norcross No.1 Lode
  • 1.26% tin in the Rib North Lode
  • 1.68% tin in the Rib South Lode

These results demonstrate the presence of multiple high-grade tin-bearing structures and highlight the district’s potential to host significant future resources.

Tin Emerging as a Critical Technology Metal

While tin has traditionally been associated with solder and industrial applications, it is now increasingly recognized as a vital component in:

  • Electronics manufacturing
  • Semiconductor production
  • Renewable energy technologies
  • Advanced industrial systems

Growing demand for secure tin supplies has renewed interest in historic mining regions such as Cornwall, which has a long-standing heritage as one of the world’s most important tin-producing areas.

Potential to Become a Key European Critical Minerals Hub

According to CTL, the combined presence of lithium and tin mineralization significantly enhances the project’s strategic value. The coexistence of two critical minerals within the same mining district could improve future project economics while supporting both UK and European supply-chain security initiatives. As governments increasingly prioritize local sourcing of strategic materials, the Tregonning Project is emerging as one of the most promising critical mineral developments in the region.

Company Sees Strong Growth Potential

CTL Chief Executive Officer Sally Norcross-Webb described the latest results as another major milestone in the company’s exploration strategy.

She noted that the success at Tregonning South builds upon previous discoveries at Wheal Vor and Tregonning North, further validating the district’s broader mineral potential.

According to Norcross-Webb, Tregonning South had never previously been explored through systematic modern drilling, making the latest discoveries particularly significant. She added that the combined development of CTL’s West Cornwall projects could deliver substantial economic benefits to the region while strengthening critical mineral supply chains across the UK and Europe.

Cornwall Positioned for a New Mining Era

As demand for lithium, tin, and other strategic raw materials continues to rise, Cornwall is increasingly being recognized as a potential cornerstone of Europe’s future mineral supply network.

The latest drilling results at Tregonning not only expand the project’s resource potential but also reinforce the growing role of domestic mining in supporting the energy transition, technology manufacturing, and critical mineral security. With both lithium and high-grade tin discoveries continuing to expand, the Tregonning Project is rapidly emerging as one of the most promising critical minerals developments in the United Kingdom.
