Brazil’s Rare Earth Ambitions Align With Europe’s Search for Secure Critical Mineral Supply Chains

Viridis is developing a large-scale rare earth operation in Minas Gerais, with plans to invest approximately $360 million in a commercial processing plant. The facility is expected to produce around 15,000 tonnes of mixed rare-earth carbonate annually from 2028. The project covers a significant exploration and development area, with 228.62 square kilometres of licences in the Poços de Caldas region. The company has also signed a non-binding letter of intent with Solvay, which could develop into a broader industrial partnership involving the supply of mixed rare-earth carbonate and cooperation on processing capabilities.
