Bezant Resources expects to process its first run-of-mine ore from the Hope & Gorob copper-gold project in Namibia during September, marking the transition from construction towards initial operating activity.
First Ore Heads to Refurbished Processing Plant
Ore from the first two mine blasts has been stockpiled ahead of processing through the refurbished Tsoaxaub Metals Processing Plant. Electrical drives and instrumentation at the facility are approximately 90% complete, while construction of the mine camp and surface infrastructure is about 75% complete.
Commissioning activities are continuing as Bezant prepares to process the initial stockpiled material. The first concentrate will be an important milestone because the project’s performance will increasingly be measured by throughput, metal recovery and concentrate quality, rather than exploration results.
Ore Sorting Could Support Expansion
Bezant is also evaluating a second-phase expansion alongside a higher mass-pull ore-sorting strategy designed to recover more copper from lower-grade material before it reaches the main processing circuit. Management believes the existing mineral inventory and plant configuration could potentially support a mine life of around 35 years, although this projection has not yet been supported by a revised economic study.
As a result, actual operating performance during the initial production phase will be more important than the current mine-life estimate. Using a refurbished processing plant could reduce initial capital requirements compared with building a new facility, but the project’s success will depend on commissioning, mechanical availability and recovery performance.
Processing Performance Becomes Key Test
Ore sorting could further improve project economics if Bezant can remove waste while retaining copper-bearing material, potentially allowing more profitable ore to be processed. Its effectiveness will depend on sorting accuracy, recovery losses and additional material-handling costs. The company will therefore need to establish whether the technology delivers sufficient benefits once operating conditions and actual ore characteristics are tested.
Namibia Provides Mining and Export Infrastructure
Namibia already hosts established uranium, copper, zinc and gold operations and has export infrastructure through Walvis Bay, providing logistical advantages for mining developments. For Bezant, however, the immediate objective is more specific: convert the stockpiled ore into saleable copper-gold concentrate and demonstrate consistent plant performance. Initial production volumes, recoveries and concentrate grades will provide the first operating evidence of whether Hope & Gorob can progress from a development-stage project into a sustainable mining operation.
