Asian Battery Metals Strengthens Copper-Nickel Strategy in Mongolia, Unlocks Major 2026 Exploration Catalysts

Asian Battery Metals PLC is accelerating its expansion in Mongolia’s emerging critical minerals frontier, positioning itself to benefit from rising global demand for copper, nickel, and essential battery metals. As electrification, renewable energy, and clean technologies transform the world economy, the company is advancing a catalyst-rich 2026 exploration program aimed at resource growth and long-term development.

At the center of this strategy is the Oval copper-nickel-PGE discovery, a high-grade sulphide system that continues to deliver strong exploration results.

The Oval project has rapidly evolved into a significant copper-nickel sulphide discovery in southwestern Mongolia. Recent drilling and geophysical surveys have expanded the interpreted mineralized corridor to nearly 900 metres of strike length, representing approximately 60% growth in the known footprint.

Core drilling consistently confirms robust sulphide mineralization, with elevated copper and nickel grades supporting geological continuity. Advanced downhole electromagnetic surveys have identified multiple conductive targets, highlighting expansion potential both laterally and at depth.

In addition to base metals, the system contains associated gold and platinum group elements (PGE), enhancing the overall value profile. This multi-metal composition strengthens Oval’s position within the global raw materials and battery metals supply chain.

Phase 4 Drilling Targets Maiden Resource Estimate

A key driver of momentum in 2026 will be the planned Phase 4 drilling campaign, with permitting and targeting work already underway.

The objectives of this next phase include:

  • Delivering a maiden resource estimate

  • Expanding known high-grade zones

  • Testing newly defined geophysical and structural targets

  • Extending mineralization at depth

Achieving a formal resource definition milestone would significantly de-risk the Oval project and elevate its status among investors seeking exposure to long-term copper and nickel supply growth.

Building a District-Scale Critical Minerals Portfolio

Alongside resource drilling, Asian Battery Metals is evaluating the potential consolidation of nearby assets to create a broader district-scale development platform.

A priority target is the Maikhan Uul copper-gold project, located close to Oval. Due diligence drilling in 2025 confirmed multiple high-grade mineralized zones, reinforcing its strategic relevance. The extended option period into early 2026 provides time for comprehensive technical and legal review.

If integrated, Maikhan Uul would diversify the company’s metal exposure beyond copper and nickel, adding gold potential while strengthening regional synergies.

Mongolia’s Growing Role in the Global Energy Transition

Mongolia is increasingly recognized as a strategic critical minerals jurisdiction, supported by favorable geology, improving infrastructure, and proximity to major Asian markets. Its established mining framework continues to attract international exploration investment.

As electrification accelerates, copper and nickel remain indispensable for electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, grid modernization, and advanced storage technologies. While lithium dominates headlines, high-grade sulphide-based copper-nickel systems are equally critical to enabling the clean energy transition.

With global copper supply constraints emerging and demand for battery metals rising sharply, new high-grade discoveries in frontier regions are gaining heightened strategic importance.

The coordinated execution of Phase 4 drilling, metallurgical studies, and potential portfolio expansion will define Asian Battery Metals’ next stage of growth. Moving from exploration success to resource definition and district consolidation could substantially enhance the company’s development profile.

As drilling progresses and strategic evaluations continue, Asian Battery Metals is positioning itself as a high-impact explorer with growing relevance in the global critical minerals market, supplying the metals essential for the energy transition and the future of the modern industrial world.
