80 Mile Launches Greenland Drilling Campaign to Test Major Disko-Nuussuaq Nickel-Copper-Cobalt-PGE Targets

80 Mile has started a major drilling campaign at its Disko-Nuussuaq nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE project in West Greenland, marking a critical exploration phase for one of the company’s most ambitious mineral assets.

The AIM-listed company confirmed that drilling activities are now underway after drill rigs were installed, cemented and pressure-tested at the project site. Each planned drill hole is designed to reach depths of up to 1,000 metres, depending on geological conditions and operational requirements.

The campaign represents a significant test of the project’s potential to host a large-scale magmatic massive sulphide deposit containing key battery and technology metals, including nickel, copper and cobalt, alongside platinum group elements (PGEs).

Greenland Nickel-Copper Project Targets Large Sulphide Systems

Exploration at Disko-Nuussuaq has identified seven major magmatic massive sulphide targets, with the largest currently interpreted to extend approximately 5.9 kilometres in length and 1.1 kilometres in width. The scale of these targets has increased market interest because magmatic sulphide systems can host high-value deposits of nickel, copper, cobalt and PGEs, metals that are essential for electric vehicles, renewable energy technologies and advanced industrial applications.

Surface exploration has already produced encouraging results, with historical and recent samples returning nickel grades ranging from 4.6% to 9.3% and copper grades between 1.5% and 2.8%.

One of the most significant discoveries to date is a 28-tonne massive sulphide boulder that returned assay results of:

  • 6.9% nickel
  • 3.7% copper
  • 0.6% cobalt
  • 2 grams per tonne of platinum group elements

These results provide evidence of high-grade mineralisation at surface, although drilling will be required to determine whether similar grades and structures continue underground.

Drilling Programme Provides First Major Subsurface Test

The current exploration programme is designed to move Disko-Nuussuaq from a surface discovery story toward a more detailed understanding of its geological potential. While surface samples and geophysical surveys have highlighted promising targets, they do not confirm the presence of an economically viable mineral deposit.

The key factors that will determine the project’s future value include:

  • continuity of mineralisation,
  • thickness of sulphide zones,
  • underground grade distribution,
  • geological structure,
  • metallurgical characteristics.

Results from drill core analysis, downhole electromagnetic surveys and laboratory assays will be closely watched by investors and industry participants. A successful drilling campaign could significantly improve the project’s valuation by demonstrating that the large-scale targets represent a genuine mineral system rather than isolated surface occurrences.

US$30 Million Funding Agreement Reduces Exploration Risk

A major advantage for 80 Mile is the project’s joint-venture structure with USFM Corporation, which is expected to fund up to US$30 million in drilling-related expenditure. The agreement includes approximately US$10 million for the 2026 exploration campaign, providing the company with access to substantial funding without relying heavily on additional equity issuance.

For an AIM-listed exploration company, securing external financing for an extensive drilling programme can significantly reduce dilution pressure on existing shareholders. The funding arrangement allows 80 Mile to advance high-impact exploration targets while preserving capital flexibility during a crucial stage of project evaluation.

Strategic Importance of Nickel, Copper and Cobalt Resources

The Disko-Nuussuaq project is focused on metals that are increasingly important to global industrial transformation.

Nickel is a critical material for many high-performance battery chemistries, particularly those used in electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

Copper remains essential for electrification infrastructure, power networks, renewable energy projects and data-centre expansion.

Cobalt continues to play a role in battery manufacturing, while platinum group elements have applications across advanced technologies, chemical processing and clean-energy systems.

With governments and manufacturers seeking more secure supply chains for critical raw materials, large exploration projects in politically stable regions such as Greenland have attracted growing attention.

Geological Results Will Determine Next Investment Phase

The drilling campaign represents a decisive stage for Disko-Nuussuaq and 80 Mile’s broader growth strategy. The company’s current investment case depends heavily on whether drilling confirms the scale, consistency and economic potential suggested by surface discoveries and geophysical modelling. Positive results could position Disko-Nuussuaq as a significant future source of battery and technology metals, potentially attracting strategic partnerships or further investment. Exploration success remains uncertain until drilling confirms the depth, continuity and quality of the mineralised system.

For now, the project enters its most important evaluation phase, with drill results expected to determine whether Greenland’s Disko-Nuussuaq region can emerge as a major nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE discovery in the global critical minerals market.
